i read an article about social anxiety the other day and started relating to some of the symptons eg, awkwardness in social situations, later fantasizing that similar situations without the initial feeling, having few close friends, etc. i've now researched it online and believe i have avoidant personality disorder. i want to know weather it is like any other phobia (if it is one). i used to have a fear of hights,in which, through challenging myself i have overcome that. i am constantly relating that fear within my mind to the social phobia, and trying to overcome the isolation i have resided myself to (with limited success). my question is, can it be done? and are there any tips in doing it? (i am extremely motivated to do something)

Hi there Phil,
I don't really think you can "beat" it entirely, but you can cope with it, and work with it, and learn how to deal with it better.
I think you are on the right path with it, for sure.
Have you seen a T for the avoidant personality disorder?
Best,
Clyde
