i have a past of always feeling like i need to confess and/or tell people things. that happened when i was younger a lot and i thought it was just stages. now i am a little older and it's re-occuring. i feel the need to confess/tell all the things i have done in my past. even as a young girl. i try to get myself over these feelings by slleeping or telling myself things will be okay and i even try scaring myself so then i can feel the feeling of my body calming down and relaxing after.. nothing seems to work. i have also noticed that lately when ever i read magaizines i always have the urge to double even triple check what things say on pages. i could be flipping through and i would want to go back. some symptoms i have if i dont do the 'complusive' thing is constant movement of my fingers and/or toes, head aches, naussea, having to pee, and having troubles breathing. could this be ocd accting up? i just need help please.

Hi,

we're not doctors or therapists and you can't get a diagnosis over the internet. I think you need to visit your family doctor and discuss all your sypmtoms with him/her. It does sound like OCD/with anxiety. Theres a new book out called Life In Rewind by Michael Jenike and Edward Zine.

Have you tried writing in a journal instead of telling others everything. Is there anything stressful going on in your life right now? The reason you're doing these behaviors is it soothe and make you feel better. You feel stressed, so you do the behavior and that tempoarily calms you down, which reinforces the behavior. You should try deep breathing exercises.

Go visit your doctor and get properly diagnosed. Best of luck to you.

It sounds obsessive and compulsive, so I guess OCD can't be that far off. :)

I too think you should go see a therapist or psychiatrist and get some advice on how to work with the stress you feel that makes you HAVE to do these things. What happens when you resist the urge? I'm sure it consumes your mind for a while, but is that so terrible?

This is something uncomfortable and intrusive in your life and it is something a psychotherapist can help you with. When you talk to a psychodynamic psychotherapist, you will learn more about this, where it comes from, the source within you. It is very rewarding and releiving to talk with an accepting, understanding, and insightful therapist about things that we don't understand.

It could be, I dont think all of it would be--but I would definitely check in with a doctor about these behaviors and things going on with you.

Best,

Clyde
