Before 2/6/07 I was a 66 yr old woman who could handle everything and anything. Everyone came to me for help and answers. I was handling all of the stress that was going on.I finished taking care of my mother, laid down for a few minutes and then tried to get up. I was putting my feet in my blouse, I could stand up, I couldn't speak. I was hospitalized for four days and discharged with medication and was told to see a psychiatrist with the week. I have been seeing a therapist in a group session, also individually, a psychiatrist and another therapist. I have memory loss, can't concentrate, and get frustrated. Until 2/6/07, I had none of these symptoms. I was wondering if this is common with a psychotic breakdown. Is there someone who has experienced these same symptoms?
Thank,

Have they checked you for a stroke? Thats what that really sounds like to me.

Of course, though, a lot of these things can be found in a psychotic breakdown. Have they ruled everything else out?

Did you feel at all stressed out beyond normal? I know you say you were handling it, but did you ever feel overstressed more than a few times?

Hope things work out for you...keep posting!

Yes, I was checked for stroke, ct, mri, ,mra, etc. Nothing showed up that would indicate a stroke. From the time I was hospitalized (Tuesday morning) till I woke up (Thursday PM) I had no idea where I was or what was happening. I did not feel stressed at all or felt overstressed anytime during the 4 years I handled my major problems. List of problems: Took mother and son into our home because their family wouldn't even when they came to US to be with their family. They were from Turkey. We supported them for 4 years with no help from the Turkish. Because of this my family turned their back on us. May 2004 my son had a stroke. He recovered and was starting back to work when we discovered that he had cancer May 2005. We took care of him so his wife could work. January 2006 we called hospice in. He lived till April 2006. Shortly after that my mother (93 years old) while living alone, started to have events of falling. Finally the doctors said she could not live alone. In August of 2006, we took her in and we are her caretakers 24/7. There is no help from siblings. In the meantime we signed a contract to have a house built on our property 3/16/05. The house was to cost $232,000 and be finished 10/15/05. The contractor stopped working on the house and by 8/06 we had to get legal help. In the process the contractor made a major error in construction. Therefore, in August 2006 with the house only 40% finished we had to go to arbitration to try to have him finish the house, We also had to look for another contractor because the first contractor would not negotiate. We went to arbitration claiming breach of contract. At this point the house that was to cost us $232,000 was now in the $400,000 price range. The arbitrator denied our claim. Therefore, we got no money from the first contractor (because of his error and delays we were looking for some money to help defray the extra cost.) My husband and I are both retired and the cost of the house has doubled, therefore, the mortgage has doubled. We don't have any savings. We were able to get a contractor to finish the house, but we still have the $417,000 mortgage to pay off. Also, my oldest son

went to Iraq shortly after my son died. All of this happened prior to 2/6/07 when I had what they are saying is a psychotic breakdown. Is there someone out there that has had a similar breakdown?

Psychotic breaks do occur sometimes when circumstances such as your mount quickly. It's common for someone to be able to stay strong when they deem it absolutely necessary during the caring for others, and then once the main push is over, collapse. Brief psychotic disorder is generally what it's called.

I suspect that while you thought you were handling all that stress, you were really stuffing it, and not doing good self care. If you don't have the money to see a therapist to help you with managing stress, then at the very least go to the library and read every book you can. Make a plan for the future.

Yes, I agree with Sky. I really hope there is someone out there who can help you--someone who has had this kind of breakdown and can help you with what they went through.

Best of luck,
