I'm going to my GP tomorrow to talk about my anxiety.
I'm a little nervous about it, and was wondering if anyone tell me what I can expect?
Will I be given a prescription, or a referral to a psychiatrist? Also, how do I go about telling her why I am there?

Thanks.

Hi,

best to just be honest about your anxious feelings and explain any physical symptoms that come with the anxiety too. If you have any ideas on why you are suffering the anxiety, do also let her know about that

she may give you a prescription or prefer to refer you if she doesnt feel qualified to diagnose or rx you

do be sure to ask questions about side effects of any medications so you can be informed

hope it goes well and that you find helpful treatment. it is hard to live with anxiety as it affects so much of us.

all the best and do come back and let us know how it went

Thank both of you for replying.

It went well. I told her how I was feeling, and she prescribed me Lexapro.

Maybe both. My doc gave me a script for an anti-depressant when she saw me and then gave me a script for a psych consult. Do you know which you would prefer? Or both? If you have in mind that you want to see a psych doc, ask for a referral and tell him/her why. If you want to try medication, he/she may prescribe for you. But it may take more than one try at medication to find the right one for you. Good luck. Deep breath. Take care. Junie
