Okay well, About an hour ago my Mom and i went on a walk together, we were probably a quarter mile from the house and down our driveway near the main road when i got tiered, my Mom told me she would just run a little further (she is training for a race) and then come back. I waited for twenty minutes until she came back crying. She was crying harder than i have ever seen before, i have anxiety problems so even waiting let alone seeing her was incredibly scary. Her legs were covered in bloody bandages and when she came over she hugged me five minutes before she could calm herself down and she told me (i barley understood her she was crying so hard) that she had been bitten by a dog in both legs and the women who owned the dog came out and gave my mom a bandage and begged not to report the dog because it already gotten a strike against it. Well now the wound looks horrible and since my mom is going to the doctor she has to report it, and i'll be guilty about that! My mom got bitten by a different neighbors dog almost a year ago and she was afraid of dogs for the longest time and i'm afraid that she'll be afraid again. she and i got back to house and my dad took her to hospital and i have been at home with my little sister. I know that this is going to make it hard for me to sleep tonight and go to school tomorrow and the last thing my parents need is for me to have another nervous breakdown. I am shaking but i tried to tell me parents it would be okay so they could go to the doctor. Can someone please help to calm myself down for tonight and get to school alright tomorrow? I'm afraid for my moms protection even now oh please help me!

Your mom will be just fine. The same situation happened to my sister. Most Dogs aren't scary. My mom owns 3. One barks like crazy over everyone but he just sniffs you and then wants to go home with you. Dogs that do that need to be put down. One strike right? The second should be the last. Don't let your mom be afraid or let this dog get away with it. Everyone needs to understand it could've been worse or hurt a child next time. But dogs shouldn't be punished for another dogs temper. Take deep breathes and stay calm for your sister. Promise you will feel better soon. I hope your mom the best and i hope you won't be afraid. If you need anything else I will keep a eye out. Keep your head up!

Hi BPG,
I'm SO sorry to hear that your Mom got bit by a dog. Good thing she knows who the owner is, otherwise she would have to worry about getting rabies shots (but that won't happen). Everythings going to be okay and I know this is upsetting, because you care about your mom. It's RIGHT that your Mom reports this dog because it has a problem and like the 1st poster said, next it may be a child. Don't worry about that dog.
You just need to be calm for your little sister and trust me, your mom's going to be fine. I think the next time she runs, she should take a stick with her, in case another dog comes around. When I was 5, I was bit badly by a neighbors dog and had to go to the hospital. Still to this day, I'm cautiously respectful of strange dogs, but I still love them and have one myself.
Your mom's gonna need you to help her a little and I want you to be a brave girl and do the best you can, to be a good daughter and sister. Okay? Just do the deep breathing exercises I told you about before. Maybe you can make her a homemade card. Everythings going to be alright and I'm sorry this happened. I'm sending a big hug your way and you/your family are in my thoughts. TC :)

Don't worry. Everything'll be fine. A card sounds like a nice idea. Maybe you can watch some TV after that or go watch some funny YouTube videos.

Thanks. My parents got back from the hospital and everyone went to bed, but i had these nightmares about my mom and i got freaked out. I'm tiered and i know that school is going to be hard today because of how i am feeling. I'm trying to focus on my mom and not myself but i checked on her at lest twice last night to make sure she was still breathing. She's asleep now and i've given myself an awful headache. Thank you all for posting.

Hi BPG,
you're such a sweet girl to check on your Mom. But you know you don't half to do that, your Dad can take care of her at night. You know what I've learned -is that many times good things come out of bad experiences. I can see by how you wrote that you LOVE your Mom very much and that you're actually stronger than you thought you were - right? Look how you stayed with your little sister and how you helped your mom when she came running down that road. Since it's clear you love her so much, then now is your chance to help her as much as you can - get things fo her, help with your sister, do some chores and I bet when you're doing these things you won't think so much about your own worries.
You know what else I realized - isn't it amazing that you got tired. This is God's way of protecting you from that dog (your mom's bigger and can handle it). This is a sign that God is looking out for you. When I got bit, I had to soak my arm in warm salt water every night for a week. Your mom's going to be okay and so are you. She needs you right now to be strong and I know you can do it. You take care, hugs Bella:)

I am posting now with some good news, i got myself through the day and i am at home and feeling SO much better. Even though this morning was tough i made it! My mom stayed home from work today to recover and she seemed a little perkier when i got home. I feel a lot calmer and was even able to forget what happened yesterday for a little. Thanks for all of the posts, they really do make my day a little brighter. Hopefully by tomorrow my Mom will be able to go to work again. Today she also sat down and snuggled with our own dog, and she told me that, at the very least she would always love our dog.

That's great news BPG. I know you're alot stronger that you think and you're so lucky to have a loving family. It's true that just because a person gets bit, you can still be comfortable around dogs. We have one too and she's very cuddly. Many times when we go through tough times, it actually makes us stronger people. I think you're a special girl, who is just a little sensitive and there's nothing wrong with that. I proud of you for doing great today. Keep it up and don't worry. TC :)

Okay, so my whole family is going to take my Mom to the doctor to support her in a little bit. But i'm little worried because this Thursday there is this "meeting" about what to do with the dog and both people (my Mom and the dog owner) have to share what they know and then i guess someone makes the decision or something close to that, anyways, i'm kind of nervous that she is going to get all mad at my Mom and all. I really hope everything goes well and i'm just wondering if anyone knows how i can help out Mom and all. Thanks again you guys.

Hi BPG,
this lady who owns the dog will have no reason to be upset at YOUR Mom - because your mom has every right to be very upset with her. I live in Canada and if a dog bites 2 people, the dog is then taken away by animal control and put down by injection. I know since you're a child this might seem harsh, but when a dog is very aggressive it's the better thing to do, because this dog will bite again (someone else). Don't feel bad for the dog because it's aggressive. The lady who owns the dog should be very apologetic to your mom. Where I live the owner really has no choice but to hand their dog over because the decision is made by the authorities. This is not your Mom's fault at all and you/family shouldn't feel guilty. This lady should have had her dog on a leash. Everything will go fine for your Mom and the lady should be the one who's worried.
Just keep being a helpful girl and don't worry - let the adults sort it all out. You're doing great. TC :)

Hi BPG,
don't worry your Mom and Dad are very capable of handling this. Are you nervous about taking care of your sister or the hearing. Try to keep yourself busy and play with your sister and maybe do something nice for your mom - like cleaning up. How is your Mom feeling? Your parents must have alot of confidence in you, to leave you with your sister - that's good. You know worrying doesn't really accomplish anything - whatever happens is meant to be. You and your family are going to be alright. TC hugs :)
