i am 18 years old and a lot of mental health problems run in the family. at the moment i feel either extremely sad or extremely sad. it is seriously affecting my life. i sometimes cant get out of bed till mid afternoon and cant get myself together enough to shower or do normal things. i really want a job but all of my last jobs I've given up..... it just feels like i don't care about anything at all.
when I'm happy its like I'm indestructible and i can do anything.my mind races and i get new ideas of things to do but don't complete the last one before i start the next. i cant exercise because once i start i cant stop and i don't have OCD but i get really particular about things like i cant touch ice and cant walk on grass.
i just want to know if anyone else feels the same and can you help me.
thank you.

Hi, first of all, know that you are not alone! Lots of people go through severe times of depression, like you have described (days when getting out of bed is truly an accomplishment--I've been there). I can also relate to the "other side" (racing thoughts, too many new ideas to handle at once, etc.) I'm bipolar (type II). Are you familiar with this illness of cycling moods? I would encourage you to read up on Bipolar disorder and see if you think it could "fit" what you've been experiencing. And then to find a way to meet with a mental health professional and tell them what you have described here. Please take the steps toward getting help; a lot can truly change for the better. At your age, mood disorders are actually very treatable, and you can enjoy a much more fulfilling quality of life throughout the years ahead! Don't give up!

I would think of Bipolar Disorder or even Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (for the not stepping on grass or the ice).
Please, check out links about both symptoms and discuss it with a therapist as soon as you can. It will help you feel better soon.
