My father has suffered from bipolar disorder for years and takes lithium, but every 2-3 years, he still has those outbursts, sleep deprivation, spending sprees, etc. Isn't this medication supposed to releive him of these symptoms?

Is it possible that sometimes he skips his meds or he needs to have his medication levels checked to see if he needs more or a different medication. This must be tough for you. Best of luck.

I don't know if medication makes all your uncomfortable symptoms go away. Getting his medication levels checked is a great idea, though.

He might need a med 'CHECK' to insure he is on the right stuff. Newer drugs come out that zero in on specific areas of the brain. Agree with bellacutie!

Yes, speak to the doctor about this. It is possible he has "leveled out" on the meds and needs a higher dosage or a different one.
