Ok.. So I'm either bipolar or ADHD. So I'm told anyways. I smoke weed. I also should probably be on meds. I have severe anxiety, the kind that keeps me from going to places like Walmart because I can't handle the stress. Fact is, I am trying to keep from collapsing. My entire life crashed and I don't know how to pick it up. So I'm severely depressed, and I'd like to talk to a doc about it, but I don't want them knowing I smoke weed. I don't want lectures, please. I want honest and good information. What adhd/depression/bipolar medicine should I look into getting information for, that won't react to weed badly. I would prefer to stay away from anything that is "habit forming", but I need something for my anxiety because I can't function. I also need to feel. I need my emotions, as I have a family to take care of. I will do the research myself, but I would like some pointers, since I'm NOT a doctor lol... Anyways, I have anger issues, and am severely depressed so I don't want something with psychotic side effects, and I don't want to get addicted. Am I asking too much? Geez. Probably.. Miracle drug right? Thing is, for the first time in my life I really want to die. Never felt this way before. I have people to talk to, but it doesn't help. Is there something out there, that will help me, without turning me into an addicted zombie, that won't react badly or not work at all when I smoke a bowl at night?

LOL--you worry about habit forming and you smoke weed?
Why smoke? Seriously, you really need to seek therapy. It can be treatable, and you really are just limiting yourself by keeping the mary jane on the table and trying to not make your anxiety and stuff the main issue--which it is.
Treat it, and the depression by going to a therapist. You really need to do so. Dont sell yourself short. Why limit yourself?
You deserve better.

Hi
it would be very irresponsible not to tell your doctor that you already use a drug eg the marijuana as they would need to know that to determine the best prescription drug to prescribe.
One of the reasons that many states are beginning to introduce medical marijuana laws is because it does seem to have benefits in many conditions, just as you have found it helps you to sleep. But, the flip side of the coin is that it has also been found to increase paranoia, anxiety etc in susceptible individuals so where it may be helping your insomnia, it may also be fueling your anxiety.
As with all drugs(and yes, it is one albeit of the herbal variety) there are pros and cons.
I would suggest being honest with your doctor and then hearing what he/she suggests for the anxiety. You can then research potential side effects. I do understand your sense of caution re the medications as yes, some can bring very unwanted side effects. It's good that you are investigating and want to be careful about mixing the rx drug with your MJ.
I also think once you understand what is at the root of your anxiety, it may give better insight into the best treatment for it...that may not necessarily be another drug, but rather therapy.
hope you are able to find the best solution for your anxiety

Sixty to seventy percent of people diagnosed with Bipolar have substance abuse issues, so any doctor qualified to diagnose you with BP or ADHD will not be shocked. Just tell them that the weed is no longer working. Tell them you need an evaluation and that you would like to think over the options that they suggest as a result of the evaluation. BP and ADHD are separate disorder requiring different sets of medication (I have both BP and ADHD).
You are saying that your life has crumbled, but that you are unwilling to consider giving up something that may be part of the problem-- you want help from their expertise but you are unwilling to consider working with them on their terms, it must be on your terms, whether or not their drugs work.
Being diagnosed BP or ADHD is not a one time, one stop process. It take the average person several years to find the right doctor and get on the medication that is right for him or her. And then there can be several years before an optimal mixture is met. At an rate, there is a long-term working relatioship with a doctor, or team of medical professionals. It took me ten years from starting meds to reaching a state that I call "stable". It takes commitment, perseverence, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve stability.
The first thing you need to do is find a doctor who is qualified, then make an appointment. Get diagnosed. Then decide what to do. You are an adult, they can't make you do anything you don't want to do.

Well, we just can't shoot out a list of medications--after all, we are not doctors. Most of us may never be, that doesnt mean that we are not smart, it just means that we are not professionals you should ask about this.
And thats why everyone wants you to go to a professional--not because we are being smart asses, it is because we are not the best to ask about stuff like that.
But they will definitely want to know about stuff like weed--which you should tell them, and the other stuff.
I realize, and apologize if I came off as rude. When I found this site, I thought it was meant for stuff like this, but after I posted I realized it was a forum for support, but not necessarily certified advice. Thank you anyways.
I have children. I smoke weed. I love my children and don't feel like opening up and having them ripped from me in the process. When I was a child I underwent ADHD testing that was never finished because we moved. I was later diagnosed as bipolar, but only after 3 visits, so basically I agree with you on the diagnosis aspect. I fail to see how my smoking a bowl sitting on my bed right before I go to sleep could be a part of the problem-I don't interact with anyone, I just go to sleep......
I honestly do not want lectures, I really just wanted a list of meds I should look into. I have been prescribed the following, and none of them have had good results; Stratera(worked, but made me an emotionless zombie-not good with kids at all) Lithium, Paxil (that one worked the first time I took it, but it didn't when I had to go off my meds and return a year later, even with a higher dosage)Zoloft (12 yrs old, zombified), Welbutrin (I am apparently allergic to Welbutrin but I thought it worked OK)Buspar (12 yrs old, zombified) Lamictol. I have been going through this for a very long time. I only recently started smoking weed to sleep.
