Hi I am 20 and have been dating this guy for 5 months and I feel that we are very close. He can be himself who is happy and compassionate but there are times where for no appearent reason he gets very depressed and even angry sometimes. Out of the blue he'll just change and start isolating himself. The lowest he's gone is when he actually tried to stab himself. The changes happen within a second. He'll be laughing with me about something and then just change and say he has to go and then I have to hear about him from his roomate about how he didn't come home 'till 2 am and then tried to hurt himself. Do you think he could be bi-polar? If so how can I help him?

It can always be possible, but it is hard to tell over the Internet.

A good thing to do would be to see if he would want to go to an MD for a checkup (with you, of course) or see a therapist.

You need to let him know that you are worrying about him and hope that he is okay and is doing better.

It also would not hurt to read up on Psych Central and other places about bipolar, and what to expect.

Hi,I agree with Clyde. The man I have been with for seven years is Bi-polar along with a few orther disorders. It has to be hard on the ppl. that have this disorder but I have to say... It can be very scary and dangerous to him and you.You need to talk to him about a medical work-up and a psych work up.He may not like that at all. I o send you both my Blessings!!
