Could you print out the criteria for bipolar and show it to your parents and see if that will help you further their understanding?

The best thing you can do is consult with a professional, either a doctor or psychiatrist, who can counsel you and go over the symptoms you are having to decide whether or not you need to be treated for bipolar disorder. There is no way of getting "tested"; you need to meet certain criteria, and only someone with training in psychology can make that call.
Best of luck.

Hi,
I agree with the 2 posts above. But you have to also be careful with diagnosing yourself. I know alot of teenagers who show a wide range of emotions that are typical for that stage in their life. Most people with bipolar don't even recognise they even have it. There is a ton if information on the internet where people try to diagnose themselves. Just because you feel you match some of the criteria doesn't necessarily mean you have it.
I'm not saying for sure you don't have it, but I think you need to ask professionals. Like Clyde said you can show your parents an internet site and see what they think and go from there.
Psych Central Answers is a place where people can ask and answer questions about mental health issues and relationships in a safe and supportive environment.
