My boyfriend is bipolar, as am I, but even though he is heavily medicated his moods are still so unstable. The mania is not a problem but he suffers from incapacitating depression coupled with paranoia. He's on lamictin, tegretol, seroquel and effexor - max doses of everything. He's been in and out of clinics for years, has even had ECT and nothing has worked. I'm deeply concerned that he is untreatable, is that possible? And what happens to people who cannot be treated?

Hi there. There are people whom feel that others are untreatable, but I do not. I feel that perhaps they may not have the entire or right diagnosis, or the medicines are not exactly what is needed.
I would at least seek some more opinions before I would decide anyone would be untreatable.
Best,
Clyde
