My son has done very well in school, very popular, plays 2 sports attended Gov. School this past summer etc. We caught him smoking pot last night and I need direction as to how I should deal with these actions. He was planning a trip to visit friends this weekend that he got to know last summer... he has been planning this for about a month, but I have said "no way" ...of course he is begging for forgiveness but I am sticking to my decision, what should I do ?

Stick to your guns!
I am sorry that this has come up for you--you seem like a good parent, who is trying to do the best you can for your child.
You need to talk to him (you and the other parent, or whom you feel comfortable with) and discuss why he would be smoking pot. You definitely need to make sure that he knows that this kind of thing is not agreeable for you, in your home at any circumstance.
You may also want to bring evidence with you about marijuana and how it can affect people. Do a search for marijuana and its effects, and let him see them and read them. Perhaps even make a copy for him to keep.
I would not change the course, whatsoever, but I definitely would discuss all of this with him. Tell him about how the effects are, how you feel negatively about it, and how you want his life to be good, not to be thrown away.
Best of luck!
