I suffer depression, OCD, anxiety, & Tourette's, & I had 2 strokes @ age 5, & I was @ risk for autism, but it turns out I'm not. Ever since I learned how to talk, I've always had social issues. Never included, invited, or accepted to social functions. People always feel like I'm not good enough for anything pertaining to competition. There's always someone "better" than me. I received lots of abuse. My family hates me & wishes me dead, & if I ask them why, they try to strangle me to death. When people see me in their presence, they scream "Ahhh!" & run for their life. I'm 24 (be 25 next month) with a BA college degree in Spanish. I'm disabled. No one wants to help me find a job, not even my Voc. Rehab. counselor. I don't do anyone anything. People choose ME to pick on for no reason! Nothing I do or say makes sense to anyone. Anything I do or say is the strangest thing they've ever witnessed. I don't even feel human. & I hate when people think I'm paranoid. I'm not.

I'm sorry people can't look past any "uniqueness" they may perceive and realize that you have so much potential and special strengths to contribute to others. I think it is a real accomplishment that you have completed a 4-year degree before age 25--many people who have had more support from others have not done that. You can be very proud of this successful accomplishment, and even more so, considering all the difficulties you've managed to overcome to get where you are today! Have you considered volunteering? That's something I did in the past (for example tutoring disadvantaged children and adults) when I couldn't work. It really helped give me purpose and self-esteem to realize that there were truly folks out there who DID need and appreciate and my services.

I don't think you are crazy either or the strangest person on the planet either.
People can be so mean to begin with.
Congrats on the degree! That is very cool! It would be awesome to find a place where you could use it, that would help with opportunities as well. The part with the job could be that since you have the Spanish degree, there might not be much open for you in that kind of field.
Are there other fields that you are interested in and are good at?
How about volunteering at Spanish language schools--that kind of thing?
Best,
Clyde

I think teaching english as a forgien language is an option, but it depends on whether you're up to it. All you need is to be over 21 to teach english in spain. A dergree is not nessisary but is prefered. ANd the age range is from 5 to 70 so hopefully some older people won't be complete fools and you can have a good time doing that.
I'm aiming for that job, it would be good to try for a month or something, and maybe you can do that job for good.
however you need to do a TEFL course I THINK. But you've got the website to look at.
You also can get a magazine sent to our house, but for the life of me I can't remember how you do it. It's somewhere on the website. Anyway, I've woffled on enough, I hope this is helpful. If not, if is at least an option for a job. :) Good luck - with life in general. :P

You're not crazy or strange. Just different. Most people prefer to conform and try to be like everyone else because they are afraid of standing out, of being noticed. They take comfort in numbers. It takes courage to be different. And you have been especially courageous, considering that you have lived with OCD and Tourette's syndrome in an unsupportive environment and still managed to complete a college degree. It might help you to find a support group in your area where you are with people who are more understanding. It's important that you find an environment that you are comfortable in.

Hi again, I just thought of the book I've read book by Amy Wilensky, called "Passing for Normal, a Memoir of Compulsion." She wrote of her own experience of dealing with Tourette's syndrome and OCD, and her difficulties in trying to fit in, and, in the end, find self-acceptance. Anyway, at the back of the book she lists information for the Tourette Syndrome Association. Try emailing tourette@ix.netcom.com. I'm sure they would have a website but that was not given. Maybe this association would help connect you to support groups and open opportunities for you...it might be worth a try. There really ARE people in this world who are caring and supportive and would respect you. I pray you get some of those supportive connections soon!

I think you're very strong if you are able to complete a degree in such a hostile environment with amost everyone doubting you and putting you down.
Because you're strong people will feel jealous, even if they don't admit it, and they are the ones who try to make you feel strange.
Being strange is only being able to do something others can't. That's what I believe. You have problems and stupid people around you and you're better than them and are over coming our problems.
I don't know why people don't want to help you with getting a job but I think ou communication skills are good, by what I've read up there. Your social skills are probably better than you think. And now that I think about it, people who say that their social skills are worse than others due to things like the ones you've mentioned, I've always found them easier to talk to... Maybe it's backwards. And your communication is better than others. I mean I think there are other people like me who would prefer being with you than to be with the fools who run away from you.
Honestly, some people are stupid.
They are the ones who are strange. Trust. You sound cool to me.
Oh yeah, if people are strangling you I don't think you are paranoid at all!
