All I can offer is to perhaps find a free clinic in your area, where he could get some therapy - maybe they can educate him about the advantages of medication. When he overeats at night is it after he goes to bed - then wakes up to eat?? There is such a condition as sleep eating where the person eats while sleep walking.
The only other suggestion is he should want to help himself with good self care - eating healthy and exercising. All you can do is offer to connect him to doctors and encourage him to get help. Good luck, Bella

As mentioned, a free clinic would be good, or actually at least seeing a medical doctor for a checkup, maybe some of this is physical?
Also, as I just mentioned on my own corner at psychcentral, people will not change unless they want to do so. Hopefully he understands how bad he is feeling and wants to change soon.
Psych Central Answers is a place where people can ask and answer questions about mental health issues and relationships in a safe and supportive environment.
