Do people who have depression need to see an counslor?

I take meds every day. Been dealing with this (this time around)Snice Nov of last year.

The pills for the most part make me feel better, but even on these pills I still have some bad days.

I'm happy the medication is making you feel better. No a person doesn't have to see a counsellor to successfully get out of depression. If a persons life is going well, they don't need to resolve any problem with a counsellor. I think even people who aren't depressed have 'bad days' sometimes. If you're doubtful then you could try it and if you feel an improvement, then keep going. Sometimes just talking period perks people up. They may be able to give you techniques to thinking positively. Good for you for trying to help yourself and best of luck. Bella :)

Hi pwl,

It’s hard to escape ads about medication as a treatment for depression. Although medication can be effective for severe depression, studies have shown that therapy can be as effective or even a more effective treatment for many types of depression. Therapy and/or lifestyle changes may also assist you. It is best practice for clinicians when treating depression that medication works best when you pursue therapy as well.

Having said that, it depends on whether your bad days you speak of, are really depression symptoms or just feeling a bit down that we all experience.

Here is a website about depression, there are links to symptoms, treatment options and self help tips. I recommend that you read it and find out all your can.

I hope this helps

I dont think you necessarily need to see a counselor either. But the main thing to ask yourself is: do you think you would get anything out of having a counselor? If you dont think you would, then you may not need to see one. If you wonder or think that you may need to see one, though, you might think it through a bit before you decide no and move on.

Remember, we are not there with you face to face or emotion to emotion, so we cannot really answer your question in its entirety as you would like.

Best,

Clyde
