Lately I have been thinking about committing suicide. Sometimes I really want to, but I can't because of my family and my friends. I made a promise with them and I know they can get in trouble if I do. I tried talking to my friends about it, but they are very judgmental about it. They always tell me its stupid and I shouldn't be thinking about it. People who do it are cowards and all these other things so I avoid the conversations with them.I tried to make them understand, but it doesn't work. I thought of going into therapy, but right now is not the good time for it. How do I get control of the thoughts(make them stop). I feel as if I tried everything. Nothing seems to work anymore.

hey there,
I wanted to let you know that any thoughts you have now about suicide should be taken seriously if they are nagging at your mind. As far as counseling goes, now is always a good time especially if the thoughts are concerning ending your life. Yes it is good that you feel responsible enough not to make such a tragic decision because you love those around you but you also need to love yourself enough not to make such a harsh choice. You have lots of choices that can be made throughout your life that can help make living so much better. If you have a faith in God this can be a source of comfort and strength in helping you get through these thoughts and situations that are driving you to think about such an extreme ending. In addition writing and keeping a journal to work the thoughts out is a great way to help you cope with your feelings. A journal doesnt judge you and it is always there waiting for your next note and it doesnt mind when you flip out or just vent or just blab on. But on a serious note, I am sure you have many people who love and care for you and would be willing to help you with coping skills to help you get through whatever it is that is bothering you and leaving you feeling helpless. I hope that you will consider therapy and make the time for YOU...that is what therapy is - a commitment to help yourself by accepting help from someone who can be a source of support for you. I hope that you will continue to reach out thru this website so that other people can also give you some of their advice. We all get down, none of us are perfect and sometimes you just need people to help you thru it :) I hope you feel better

Very good post Teresa!
Hi leonita,
I agree with Teresa that suicide isn't the answer to the pain you're feeling or lifes problems. Can you pinpoint any particular reason you're sad?? I lost my own brother to suicide a year and 5 months ago and it's very devastating to family and friends.
It's important to realize just because you have the thoughts, doesn't mean you need to act on them - they're just thoughts and they change. You can be like an obstinant child and say "I'm not listenening and I won't do it" We once had a suicide post here and she sounded so desperate, that I watched the computer all night, waiting for an answer. It turns out she logged off, thought about it and felt better. She ended up going to the beach with friends while I sat by the computer LOL.
Suicidal feelings creep up on people when they're in alot of pain and they feel they don't have any more coping skills. Think of it like a scale - pain on one side and coping skills on the other. When the scale tips to too much pain, the person feels like they want relief - you must remember at times like this to reach out and always WAIT for them to pass - they always will. Here's a good website

I hope you feel better soon and please tell your parents.
Hi! I am sorry you are feeling so badly and struggling with thoughts of suicide. It is a dark lonely place to be. I hope you reach out and tell someone in real life that will help you and encourage you. I wondered if you knew why you were struggling with this? Did something bad happen? Do you feel depressed? Sometimes there is not something that we can pinpoint, it is just a chemical imbalance thing going on. A lot of medical conditions can cause depression which can cause the suicidal feelings. Have you been checked out by a gp? Gotten some lab work done and such? If not, there is a place to start. If you know what is behind the feelings and thoughts of suicide, it may be necessary to face them and deal with them, but I highly recommend doing this with someone, like a therapist. You can also talk to a school counselor, a coach, a pastor, etc. If you feel like you are going to kill yourself, you can go to any emergency room, tell them how you are, and they will have someone come do a psych consult to determine what needs to be done next. Don't keep this a secret and don't keep the burden all to yourself. You did a good thing by writing here, good taking care of yourself. Now help yourself a little more and talk to someone you can trust in real life. If your friends are blowing you off, find someone else. Just keep trying. You are worth it. All my best, Junie

Please don't commit suicide. My brother will be dead six weeks on Thursday due to suicide. I miss him so much and nearly every day since I am doubled over in agony grasping my waist thinking about him. Don't feel that no-one cares about you. There are loads of people right now. Maybe you are not getting feed-back from them. Start asking questions. Ask your mother and father what they think of you and ask your friends. Get the feed-back that you need to continue living this particular life-time. You came here for a special reason remember. What is it that you came here to do? Ask that question a hundred times a day until you are certain sure. You came here to do special work and meet certain people. What is it? Ask, ask and ask. Tell your thoughts that you are too busy and haven't time to commit suicide and tell your thoughts that you might have to repeat this life over again because of committing suicide. That's what I tell myself and it works.

Hey everyone,
Thank you for responding to me. I'm sorry for all your losses. I wish things could have been different for all of you. I wish you and your family the best.
I'm trying my best to not let the thoughts get to me, but they are always there. They wont stop no matter what i do. The things I used to love to do that will always occupy my mind, don't and its getting harder and harder everyday. I'm NOT going to commit suicide, but i just don't know what to do or who to turn to. Nothing works and I'm desperate for a solution.
Again I'm sorry for your losses.
Thank you.

Find out as much as you can. Realize life is horrible, but can be A LOT WORSE than it should be, especially if suicide is involved or something like it.
Can you contact a therapist, counselor or tell a close, personal friend?
Best,
Clyde

Leonita,
I have attempted suicide twice in my life I know how hard it can be. I can still remember asking for help the way you have here and hearing the same old answers like these. It's been about 8 years since then but I still suffer the aftermath of those actions even today. I know it seems like there is no one who can understand and the truth is most people don't understand but there are people who can help. One thing that really helped me was realizing that life is rare and therefore valuable. Your life is rare and very valuable.
No one wants to die they are just looking for a way to live. Find that answer. I hope this has helped in someway.
