Hi Gemma, I'm sorry that you've been having such a rough time. If you were past your teen years, I would say, yes, some of these are typical signs of depression. However, as you pointed out, it is sometimes difficult to determine if a teen is having real depression, as in clinical depression, or if there's another cause for the way they are feeling. Have you talked to your parents about the way you've been feeling? The very best thing that they could do for you is, first, to have your regular doctor check you out and make sure there is nothing physically going on with you that is causing this to happen, like something anemia or something. Then, if there seems to be no physical illness, you should probably be evaluated by a pediatric psychiatrist. The reason I say this is because treating someone under 18 for depression is very different than treating an older adult. The medication choices for people under 18 are entirely different than the ones for adults. If you are reluctant to talk to your parents about this, I would suggest that you at least talk with your school counselor. It is not good for you to let this go on for very long. I hope you can get something done about it very soon. Best of luck to you.
