It does sound like depression.

It wouldn't hurt to ask your parents and just be totally honest about how you're feeling. Tell them that you want to talk to a professional, and you can also tell them that you tried to overdose a few times. I think that would make them listen. An initial consultation with a therapist or psychiatrist is usually FREE, so really, they have no reason for saying no. If they're skeptical, tell them that you'd like to hear what a therapist or psychiatrist says, and you don't mind if they're in the room with you.

In the meantime, try and find some things that make you feel a little better at a time and try and get some rest. Comedy movies and videos are good idea. Some nice music might help too. Writing down what's going on could give you some added perspective too. If you're really really desperate and feelings suicidal, PLEASE call 1-800-SUICIDE. Don't do anything stupid, okay? :)

Hey Marley,

It's good that you understand what is happening to you. If you've identified with the symptoms of depression then its possible that this is what is happening to you.

I think you should explain to your parents as best you can about how your feeling. Can you give them a print out of depression or ask them to read about it and show them an online site. If you've tried to overdose before then it seems to me that they wouldn't want that to happen again.

If you can't speak to your parents can go to the school counselor and tell them. They are good at understanding what is happening with you, they can also help explain things to your parents.

It's important that you speak to a doctor, they may prescribe some medication for you, and refer you to a therapist.

There is hope for you, that you can get on top of these feelings and thoughts and begin to feel better.

Hi Marely,

the first thing you need to do is go to your doctor and have a complete physical to rule out anthing mediacal. If they can't find any reason for your pain then I think it's depression. Yes, depression can often cause physical symptoms as well.

You mention difficulty sleeping- this could make the depression worse and can make your physical pain worse. Go ahead and tell your parents that you want to see a doctor. You could also talk to a school counsilor. Remember don't ever think that your family would be better off without you - it would break their heart. It's okay to make mistakes- it's part of life learning process. Best of luck to you Marley.

It does sound like depression, yes. Could you talk to your parents, or a guidance counselor at school?

I know you dont really want to talk to anyone about it, but it definitely will not get better on its own.

And, you might get some good sleep out the deal later on...and some relaxation, too.

Do it for you!

Best,

Clyde
