I talk to myself all the time. I have tried to stop and I am unable to do so. I am even talking in the street. I know that everybody does this to a certain extent - but this is getting ridiculous, I am talking non stop and I am getting worse. I have tried snapping a rubber band on my wrist, saying affirmations - I am at my wits end. I live alone by the way, but do not feel particularly lonely.

Have you checked this out with a T? When you say non-stop, do you mean like while around others, all the time, etc?
Is this a stress-reducer?
I have a friend who repeats everything he says, and 1/2 of everything I say to him (both in a quiet "speaking back to himself" voice). I imagine it is for memory purposes.
Do you know why you started and what caused it?
Best,
Clyde

Thanks for your quick reply Clyde.
Firstly, what is a T?
When I say non-stop - it's not whilst others are around, but all the time when I am by myself - including when I'm walking about outside on the street, in shops etc.
I don't feel that I'm stressed out - if I felt lonely that could maybe explain it, but I don't really feel that way.
It hasn't just 'started' as such - for years I have talked to myself as everybody does - when I'm concentrating on something etc. but it has simply gotten more and more frequent and now I am having long conversations with myself (almost as if I am explaining everything I do to an invisible 'person').
I spend a lot of time working on the computer and constantly find myself chatting away - it's really starting to disturb me.
