I never share how I am feeling. So when people ask me how are you? I always say okay or alright when I could be hurting so much on the inside.I never talk to people about my problems, how I am feeling or anything like that. Is this a bad thing?

Hi
it really depends on who is asking?
I usually dont open up to casual aquaintences who ask how I am and so also give the generic "fine thanks, and you"
but I am honest with people I am close to.
It helps me to be part of a very caring church group as they love me even when I am not being very lovable and I can also tell them when I am not doing ok
Do you have anyone close you can talk to honestly? I do think it is important to do so with trustworthy people.
Reading some of your other questions makes me wonder if you do have someone you can release things to. I asked on another message how old you are, as that would give guidance in suggesting things that may help

It definitely depends on how casual and how close you feel to each person who asks.
Is there anyone who you can talk to in your everyday life, someone you trust?
Best,
Clyde

I don't trust people easily, and no I don't really have someone I trust like that.
I think sometimes it is a bad thing to not share, even though I struggle with this too. If you feel bad and you keep it all inside it can just make it worse. I talk to my therapist and she listens. Sometimes I just write things to myself and it kind of helps to get them out. Do you do that? Journalling I mean? If you feel like you cannot trust anyone sometimes just telling yourself and validating how you feel and why you feel it can help. But I never would have known how good it can be to tell someone else until I realized one day that my therapist really cares about me. Even if that did scare me at first. But sometimes you need to tell someone what is going on. Hope this helps. Junie

Journaling is great. The thereapist is the place to really talk if they are any good. I have had some great therapists and some real fools too. The problem with talking to non professionals is either most people repeat what you shared or have no clue how to help you and end up pulling away. The reason therapists make so much money is because the job of listening to someonelses is problems is depressing. I once tried one of those group therapy deals and found that other peoples problems are definately a downer. People want to be happy and uplifted not depressed...I wish you well...
Psych Central Answers is a place where people can ask and answer questions about mental health issues and relationships in a safe and supportive environment.
