I just went through a break up myself. At first, it looks like life can't go on. You think about the person all the time. Like you said, your emotions are all over the place. You check whether you did everything right. It looks hopeless.
But after a while, after doing EXACTLY what you're doing, things start to calm down. You get waves of silence and calm followed by waves of chaos and longing. But more and more, the calm waves grow longer in duration. Eventually, you have enough calm to examine the situation and you find some kind of peace: maybe that it wasn't really right, or that there's someone better out there, or that even if it was right, it doesn't matter and you can move on.
What you're going through is totally healthy and part of the process. If it helps you, you can try writing a letter to him in your journal about how much you're hurting. You can decide to send it or keep it for yourself.

When two people come together and join they actually do just that ! I would suggest that you envisage your ex opposite you and all connections being cut and given back and the marks being healed, use the strength of the mind when doing this.

I really like what Edahn says. Letting the other person know how you feel even if they dont let you know is important. It helps to get it "off your chest" a bit and off your mind.
