Setting a standard of what you will and will not put up with, is the only way for you to assess, what is or is not comfortable for you.
Aggression, can cover a lot of areas.
What do you imagine the guy you end up being with like? Is it like your boyfriend is now? If not, set some self respecting standards that you refuse to cross, and keep those ideas in mind.
If your boyfriend consistently crosses those standards, kick him to the curb. Find someone who treats you with respect.

I think it's a very reasonable fear to suspect he may lose it with you too. One day you're going to tick him off and you don't want to fall victim to his temper. Ask him to enroll in anger management and if he doesn't want to, then kick him to the curb like Francesca said. You don't want to walk on eggshells with him - that's no life.
