My wonderful handsome popular son was diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia in April 08 at the age of 16, he is now 18. It has taken over a year to get him on a great treatment where he is able to attend his senior year of high school and loves it. He moved in with me this past September 15, 09 after living with his dad for a little over a year most of the time in PA; I live in San Diego. Last night, (and I do not know the details) a kid killed his dad in our apt building. My greatest fear is that my son will one day have this same reaction. He is strong, smart, wants to stay well, live a normal life, realizes his disability, and continues to take his meds so that he can live a normal life, but sometimes he does get very angry. I love him so much and I am so glad that he is living with me and he is so glad to be back in San Diego, BUT...when and should I be concerned?
Thank you

I don't know the statistics for paranoid schizophrenics killing their parents or if there is a stastistic for such a topic. From what you describe he sounds like he's doing very well and is trying his best. The only time I would be concerned(not about killing you) is if he stops taking his meds and becomes uncooperative. Live in the moment, enjoy your son and appreciate his efforts. Best of luck to you both. :)

You would know better then any of us whether your son is capable of it. If it seems absolutely ridiculous, it probably is.

I think you would have the best idea of all, but I dont think there really is a stat for that kind of thing.
I would not worry about it unless he seems to start being a danger to you and your family. Which it doesnt seem possible at the moment.
