Is it wrong for me to cut myself just for the high that comes with it? I mean, I'm not addicted, not in the sense that I absolutely need it. I just...like it; it's euphoric, and i like the blood...I only do it every once in a while, recreationally; it's not a daily or weekly ritual. Is this particularly wrong?

Well, I wouldn't know whether or not to call it addicted. I mean, you state that you don't do it much, but when you do, its the sense that you need it, and its euphoric to you? That last two parts does sound addicting to me.
We have many SI's at PC, as I am sure you probably are aware of now. If not, here it the link to the SI's in the PC forums:

I see what you mean, but couldn't you say the same thing about chocolate, or mcdonald's french fries? You may not eat it all the time, and you do just fine when you're not eating it, but when you do eat it, it tastes wonderful.

Well, to a point...but euphoric means extreme happiness and joy. I never have been extremely happy and joyful over chocolate and fries, even though I really do like them.
I feel that causing physical injury to oneself is not the best exact thing in my opinion, yet, I do have lots of friends who SI and respect their right to do so.
You have to be careful with any kind of blood issue, even your own.
Please be safe, no matter what you do :)
Best,
Clyde

Hey guys.
I'd have to disagree with comparing cutting ones' self to eating McDonalds. Cutting is generally done to experience a eupohric state so that one can have a little break from intense negative emotions. In a sense it's like using drugs or alcohol. It's not a healthy way to cope. There are many great things that we can do to cope in a healthy way, and be happy. It takes time and effort but we all know its worth it. I really hope that you guys are able to find other ways to support yourselves that don't involve hurting yourself. It's difficult to get good help these days, but I have personally come across some very helpful methods, and would be more than happy to share them if you are interested! I truely believe that things will work out for you guys and wish you both the best! Take care!

In my opinion (which it is just an opinion, and doesn't necessarily hold truth or validity) I think that deep down you guys know why you cut yourselves. And by deep down I mean your subconscious. When we experience suffering we have a tendency to ignore uncomfortable feelings. After suppressing them for so long, it really starts to affect our behaviour and we start doing things without really knowing why. We suppress things when we feel they are too threatening to us. As for suggestions, lets start with a few and you let me know if they interest you. Start walking everyday! It increases seratonin levels just like an anti-depressant but doesn't have all of the nasty side effects. Also it's not numbing you from your emotions, will boost your confidence, and give you some exercise. Secondly, because it appears that you are dealing with symptoms of a deeper problem I would strongly suggest seeing a therapist who does dreamwork. Dreamwork allows one to tap into emotions in different states of consciousness. We make our dreams up, and can only be interpreted by ourselves. We symbolically dream about what's bothering us! So dreamwork allows you to take the symbols and make connections to your waking day life. The Story Telling Method by Dr. DeCicco is a great one for beginners so you can ask about that. Or there is the 2A method also by Dr. DeCicco which is a little more advanced but taps into unconscious emotions more. I have practised both methods are have gained some incrediable insight into feelings I didn't even realize I was experiencing because my mind was so busy with other things. If you experienced something traumatic I'd strongly suggest the Meditative Dream Re-entry also by Dr. DeCicco. Sorry she just has some really great methods! I know that the cutting doesn't seem serious right now, but wouldn't it be easier to stop it when its like this?? It's like cancer in the sense that you want to nip it in the butt as soon as possible. And really, why go on any longer cutting when you know deep down that there's a much better way to find happiness, and a much higher quality of happiness inside you. Cutting just isn't the way to tap into that. You should be super proud of yourself for being able to talk about this!! You know the hardest part of finding happiness?? Working through the fear. The rest is easy! Well let me know if you want more suggestions. I believe some methods are better than others, but different strokes for different folks so really...it all depends on the person! Have a Happy Friday!!
