I'm not about to kill myself. I don't want to die. I'm just suffering from depression and I want to talk to someone about it.

I'm worried that when I call, the operator will take it upon his/herself to trace the call and send an ambulance charging to my house. I don't need that.

Thank you.

Hello there. When I have called, albeit it has been awhile, I just talked to the person, felt better and that was it. They did not chase me down or send an ambulance. I think they only do that if you are considered high lethality. I do suggest calling, if you think it will help. I have had one positive experience and one negative experience. The negative experience was just an IMHO insensitive hotline worker. But nothing bad happened to me because of it. I still remember the positive experience I had with a different hotline worker and I was glad I called.

If you are in danger of hurting yourself seriously or killing yourself, please do let them know though, so they can help you. Or go to the ER.

Also you might want to find a therapist to help you long term. Then you would have someone to call who knows you and cares about you and has a relationship with you and can better judge if you are in danger of ending it.

I hope you feel better soon.

All my best. Junie

Hi medicbag,

when you call, make it clear you're depressed and not a danger to yourself. They would only trace the call if they feel a person's in immediate danger. You're also more than welcome to talk here.

hope things get better for you

Basically, when you call--they just talk to you, try to get you to feel better about yourself and life, and also try to get you to find help on your own to help yourself.

They will not have ambulances coming full force after you to help you, but will try to teach you ways of coping and learning how to help yourself.

As Bella said, be sure to mention to them that you are not a danger to yourself or others.
